Kenmore Dishwasher Loading Instructions

Kenmore dishwashers are handy appliances that cut down on your cleaning time in the kitchen. They are durable and can handle most all dish cleaning jobs. However, to get the best results, you should follow the Kenmore dishwasher loading instructions. Although loading dishwashers is virtually the same among all the manufacturers, often they are not loaded correctly. One thing to watch for is to not load tall items on the outside right corner of the lower rack as this can cause the detergent to not be distributed evenly.

  • Rinse dishes off with water in the kitchen sink to remove large food debris. Chunks of food or food debris from multiple dishes clog up the drain in your dishwasher.

  • Open the dishwasher and extend the top rack. Place glasses and cups upside down along the sides of the rack. Place plastic containers on the upper rack. The heating element is at the bottom of the dishwasher and could melt plastic containers if they are in the bottom rack. Use the center of the upper rack for small saucers and bowls.

  • Place any large mixing bowls, pots and other odd shape dishes on the upper rack whenever possible.

  • Push the upper rack back into the dishwasher and extend the lower rack. Place large items such as dinner platters and broiler pans on the inner edge of the rack with the soiled part of the dishes pointing toward the center of the dishwasher.

  • Position large plates evenly on each end of the dishwasher with the soiled parts of the plates pointing toward the center of the dishwasher. Lay pots and bowls on their sides in the lower rack. Avoid obstructing the spray tower in the center of the rack.

  • Insert knifes and forks into the special utensil basket with the handles pointing up. Place spoons into the basket with the handle pointing down. Mix the knives, forks and spoons together evenly among the separate compartments in the basket. This avoids the possibility of like utensils sticking together and not washing thoroughly. Do not place anything in the basket that may fall though or obstruct the spray arm.
