Traktor Pro has the ability to be synchronized to an external MIDI time clock, but it has to be configured properly first. The integration of digital mixing that syncs to your hardware sequencer has made this software extremely popular amongst professional electronic musicians the past number of years. If you are new to synchronizing the MIDI between your sequencer and Traktor Pro, don't get stressed out. With the right instruction, you can link the MIDI time clock within minutes.
Things You'll Need
- External sequencer with MIDI time clock
- USB soundcard with MIDI
- MIDI cable
Connect the external sequencer to the USB soundcard. Plug the MIDI cable from the external sequencer's "MIDI Out" port to the soundcard's "MIDI In" port on the back of the interface.
Connect the USB cable from the soundcard to an open USB port on the computer. If you haven't previously installed the soundcard on your machine, install the drivers at this point. You can either insert the installation disc, or download the EXE from the manufacturer's website. Refer to the soundcard's instructional manual for the specific procedure for installing the software for your particular audio device.
Open Traktor Pro by double-clicking on the desktop icon. The Setup Wizard will appear, directing you to the software "Preferences" section.
Click on "MIDI Setup" from the list of options in the "Preferences" screen, then choose your USB soundcard from the list of installed devices on your machine. Also set the MIDI channel from this screen for communication between the sequencer, soundcard and Traktor.
Power on your external sequencer, then set the MIDI channel to the same value as you set Tracktor and your soundcard to in Step 4. Refer to your sequencer's owner's manual for specific instructions on how to enter the global settings for your particular make and model, since they vary.
Go to the Tracktor Pro main user interface, then click "EXT" as the "Clock Master." You can find the "Clock Master" controls in the top-left corner of the program's screen. This will set Traktor to be MIDI synced from an external source, meaning your sequencer.
