How to Blend Colors for Kids With Crayons

Blending colors can add a whole new dimension to creating a picture.

Perhaps you want to teach children how they can make secondary colors such as purple, green and orange from the primary colors of blue, red and yellow. Maybe you want to demonstrate how to blend two colors together to make a more realistic skin tone or other shade that you can only create by blending. Whatever the reason, the art of blending colors for kids with crayons is a task that requires careful consideration to achieve favorable results.

Things You'll Need

• Different colored crayons
• Facial tissues

Instructions

1. Color the selected area with the lighter color crayon first, such as yellow.

2. Color over the lighter color lightly with the darker color crayon, such as blue.

3. Rub a tissue gently over the entire surface of the two colors to blend into a new color -- in this case green.

Tips & Warnings

• Choose the colors you want to blend wisely. Some colors, when blended, will look muddy.

• Avoid covering the first color with a heavy layer of the second color, or the colors will not effectively blend.
