The Chevrolet Silverado is a popular full-size truck with a reputation for strength, comfort and reliability. At home as a rugged work horse or as a roomy, daily driver, it's a familiar sight on the roads across America. Replacing the windshield wiper motor on your Silverado is a maintenance task you can perform yourself--saving time and money at the auto repair shop.
Things You'll Need
- Socket set
- Torx bit
- Flat head screwdriver
Raise the hood. Remove the negative terminal clamp from the battery with a wrench.
Apply painter's tape to the windshield under the wiper arms; use a marker to record their positions on the windshield. Pull the washer hoses out of the wiper arms. Remove the plastic caps from the washer arms and, with a socket wrench, unscrew the bolts that secure the washer arms. Remove the washer arms.
Remove the Torx screws, plastic clips and push pin from the engine cowl grille. Remove the grille by pulling it up then off. Use the socket wrench to remove the four bolts and the reinforcement panel located above the wiper assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor. Remove the mounting bolts from the wiper motor assembly with the socket wrench.
Unbolt then remove the wiper motor assembly from its linkage with a small socket wrench or socket driver. Pry the link from the motor arm with a screwdriver.
Replace the new wiper motor by reversing the above the steps. Reattach the negative clamp to the battery and test the motor by activating the wipers.
