How to Rotate Buick Century Car Tires

Regular tire rotation will extend the life of your tires.

Regular tire rotation will extend the life of your tires by providing even wear. The owner's manual for a late model Buick Century recommends that tires be rotated every 7,500 miles. The Century has a compact spare tire, so the rotation pattern will use the four full sized tires mounted on the car. The following steps are recommended for those who have access to a hydraulic floor jack and the appropriate jack stands.

Things You'll Need

  • Hydraulic floor jack
  • Four jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Owner's manual

Instructions

    • 1

Set the parking brake and check that the automatic transmission of your Buick Century is in Park.

    • 2

Jack up the front of the car using the hydraulic floor jack. Place two jack stands under the emergency jack points behind the front wheels. Use the hydraulic jack under a crossmember beneath your car, behind the front bumper area. The emergency jack points are shown in the owner's manual and are about 6 inches behind the front tires. The front of the car should be lowered onto the jack stands with the tires off the ground.

    • 3

Jack up the rear of the car. Place the jack stands following the same procedure as for the front of the car. All four tires should be off the ground, with the Century supported by the four jack stands.

    • 4

Remove the four wheels from the car using the lug wrench to loosen and take off the lug nuts. Keep the lug nuts organized and note the starting position of each tire.

    • 5

Rotate the tires by moving the front tires straight back to the rear axle on the same side, and the rear tires over to the front axle on the opposite side.

    • 6

Remount the wheels and tires to the hubs using the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts. The lug nuts should be tightened in a way that produces even torque, so the wheel is in straight alignment with the hub.

    • 7

Lower the car to the ground by reversing the jacking procedure. Remove the jack stands.

Tips & Warnings

  • Crack the lug nuts loose before jacking up the car to make lug nut removal easier once the wheels are in the air.

  • A four-way, "spinner" type lug wrench will make the process faster if you plan to rotate your car tires on a regular schedule.

  • Check the tightness of the lug nuts after driving the car approximately 100 miles.

  • Tire rotation should only be accomplished if you have the proper jack and jack stands. Do not attempt to accomplish the rotation using the emergency jack that comes with your Buick Century.
