How to Initialize the Microprocessor on a Denon

By Orlando Bogue

Fix the "brain" of your home theater system by resetting the receiver to its factory default settings. If the receiver was previously used or you received it as a gift, clearing the previous settings will make it easier to adapt it to your own home theater system. Denon receivers allow the user to reset the microprocessor to clear all previous settings. Depending on the model of receiver, certain steps are necessary to initialize the reset.

Turn off the power to the Denon receiver using the power button. Make sure that the receiver is completely turned off and not in standby mode. Any speakers or devices connected to the receiver can remain in place.

Simultaneously press the power button and two other buttons in combination to initiate the reset process. The two buttons will depend on the model of the Denon receiver that you have. Some models use the "DSP Simulation" and "Standard" buttons, while others use the "Surround Mode" buttons. Refer to the user manual to determine which buttons to use. If the manual does not show the buttons, contact Denon directly (see Resources).

Release the buttons once the display starts to flash at one-second intervals. Wait ten seconds. Press the "Power" button on the receiver panel and verify that the previous settings have been reset. Follow the prompts on the interface of the Denon to set up the receiver for your needs.
