How to Install an HP LaserJet 1300 Without a Disc

The HP LaserJet 1300 printer is now out of production. If you don't have the installation discs that came in the package, or your computer is so new that it does not have a CD drive, using the printer can be a bit of chore. Luckily, the 1300 series uses a standard USB connection, so getting it into a functional state is a simple matter of connecting it to the computer and downloading the appropriate drivers for your version of Windows.

Things You'll Need

  • USB-to-USB:A cable

    • 1

Turn on your computer and log in. Start your preferred web browser and navigate to the HP LaserJet 1300 driver download page (see Resources section).

    • 2

Click the link for your version of Windows. Make sure to select the correct version and processor package; 32-bit drivers will not work on 64-bit systems and vice versa.

    • 3

Click the download link in the next page and save the file to your computer desktop. Depending on your Internet connection speed, this could take a few minutes.

    • 4

Close the browser and double-click the file you downloaded to your desktop. Follow the instructions, pressing "Next" and "OK" as necessary. At this point, the software asks you to plug in the printer. Turn the printer on, plug the square end of the USB cable into the corresponding port on the printer, then plug the opposite USB plug into your computer.

    • 5

Continue with the driver installation as directed on the screen. When the driver installation completes, restart your computer (this may happen automatically). Your HP LaserJet 1300 printer is now installed.
