DIY: Underbed Storage

The space under the bed is optimal storage space, but it can be difficult to keep it organized. Under-bed storage boxes and bags can be expensive. You can easily create under-bed storage yourself using old dresser drawers and a few caster wheels. These rolling storage compartments easily come out from under the bed, allowing you to add or remove items quickly.

Things You'll Need

  • Dresser drawer
  • Measuring tape
  • 4 swiveling caster wheels
  • Drill
  • 8 screws
  • Measure the space between your bed and the floor with a measuring tape. Then measure the height of one caster wheel and the height of the old dresser drawer, and add those two together. Make sure the drawer and the wheels are shorter than the space between the floor and bed so it will slide under the bed easily.

  • Turn the drawer upside down on the floor. Place the first swiveling caster wheel in one of the corners of the drawer.

  • Use the electric drill to screw two screws into the holes in the caster wheel and into the dresser framework. Two screws is enough to hold the wheel onto the drawer.

  • Repeat with each of the four wheels, screwing them into each of the four corners of the drawer.

  • Turn the drawer back over and fill it with whatever you want to store under the bed. Hold the handle of the drawer and push the drawer backwards so it rolls under the bed.
