How to Tighten a Doorknob
A loose doorknob that slips and jiggles can make the door more difficult to open, and the knob might fall off over time. How you tighten the knob depends on the age of the knob. An older knob and lock system that holds the knobs in place with set screws requires a few steps to tighten up. Most newer knobs, however, are more integrated into the lock and only require one simple step to tighten the doorknob. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Tighten the screws on the lock plate on the edge of the door using a Phillips screwdriver if you have a newer doorknob; securing the lock will tighten the knob. Continue to the next steps if you have an older knob.
-
2
Loosen the screw that is on the thin inner part of the knob -- this screw may require either a screwdriver or an Allen wrench -- and unscrew the knob from the spindle rod.
-
-
3
Tighten the screw on the other knob on the other side of the door as tight as possible.
-
4
Turn the knob until the flat side of the spindle rod is facing the top (as seen from the side where you removed the knob).
-
5
Push the connected knob up against the door and hold it in that position as you thread and reconnect the other knob back onto the spindle rod until the knob touches the metal trim on the door.
-
6
Turn the reconnected knob while holding the other in place until the knob's screw lines up with the flat spindle side at the top. Screw in the screw as tight as possible.
