How to Change the Belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel Vacuum

The belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel is used to drive the agitator. The company recommends to check the belt periodically and replace it if it appears worn or is broken. Hoover suggests only purchasing the belt specifically made for the Wind Tunnel. There are similar belts available; however, they do not power the agitator correctly and may cause damage to the power nozzle. If you cannot find the Hoover replacement part at a retail store, they are available for purchase online.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Flip the power nozzle over. Remove the two screws located next to the spinning brush and the two screws in the upper corners of the nozzle.

  • Turn the power nozzle back over so it is right side up. Pull off the cover. Remove the three screws holding the spinning brush cover in place.

  • Lift off the spinning brush cover. Pull the belt off of the pulley motor located on the side of the power nozzle. Lift up the spinning brush and remove the belt from around the agitator pulley.

  • Slide the new belt onto the agitator pulley on the spinning brush. Lower the spinning brush back in place.

  • Stretch the new belt back toward the motor pulley. Turn the brush to make sure the belt allows it to spin freely.

  • Place the brush cover back on and tighten the three screws to hold it in place. Put the power nozzle cover back on. Flip the nozzle over and replace the four screws removed in Step 1. Tighten them to hold the cover in place.
