Troubleshooting a Uniden Cordless Phone

Save

Uniden cordless telephones let you receive and make calls from anywhere within your residential structure without the hassle of telephone cords or having to purchase additional telephones. The phones include a base unit that charges the phones' handset and built-in "Channels" for eliminating static. Certain Uniden cordless phone models even include built-in caller-ID units and access to voice-mail controls. Like other devices, problems do arise and your Uniden cordless phone may not operate properly. But there are ways to troubleshoot the problems and return your phone to a working state.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloth/rag or pencil eraser
  • Compatible Uniden cordless phone battery (optional)

Base Unit Not Working

  • Check that the base unit's AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet and not a power strip or electrical extension cable. Locate an unused electrical outlet and plug the AC adapter into the outlet, then check to see if the base unit is working.

  • Unplug any other electrical devices plugged into the outlet that the base unit's AC adapter is plugged into. Now check to see if the base unit is working.

  • Disconnect the base unit's AC adapter from the electrical outlet for 25 seconds if the base unit is still not working. Plug the AC adapter back into the outlet, then check to see if the base unit is working.

  • Turn your phone's handset unit over and remove its battery door. Lift the phone's battery pack up and gently unplug the battery's wire connector by pressing in on the connector's side and pulling the connector free from the phone's circuit board. Disconnect the phone's cord from the base unit and wall jack then unplug the phone's AC adapter for 30 minutes before reconnecting it. Your phone is now reset.

  • Reconnect the battery pack and the phone's base unit/wall telephone cord. Place the handset in the base unit for charging---let your Uniden cordless phone fully charge, for at least 20 to 25 hours, before using the telephone.

Phone's "Status Light" Not Illuminating or Battery Failing to Charge

  • Check that the base unit's AC adapter is plugged into the both the base unit and electrical outlet firmly.

  • Wipe the base unit's handset holder's connectors and the connectors on the bottom of the handset with a soft cloth/rag or pencil eraser to remove any loose dust and dirt from the metal connectors.

  • Place the handset firmly in the base unit holder until the "Status Light" illuminates, indicating the battery is charging.

  • Replace your Uniden cordless phone's battery, by purchasing a compatible battery from an electronic supply store or directly from Uniden. Turn your phone's handset unit over and remove its battery door. Lift the phone's battery pack up and gently unplug the battery's wire connector by pressing in on the connector's side and pulling the connector free from the phone's circuit board. Battery installation is the reverse of removal.

Audio Problems and Calls Disconnecting

  • Move your Uniden cordless phone's handset or base unit to a location away from appliances and metal objects that may be interfering with the phone's operation.

  • Walk toward the phone's base unit if you are outside or far away from the base unit.

  • Press the "Channel" button on the handset's keypad to switch channels. The "Channel" button aids in eliminating static and audio problems.

  • Recharge your Uniden cordless phone's battery pack, by placing the handset in the base unit's handset holder, if the handset doesn't ring or you notice calls disconnecting unexpectedly.
