A wrist corsage adds a touch of elegance to a gala occasion, such as a high school prom. Wrist corsages are also appropriate accessories for some members of a wedding party, including flower girls and mothers of the bride and groom. Assemble the handmade wrist corsage as close to the occasion as possible to prevent wilted blooms. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1/3 yard velvet ribbon, 2" wide, in a coordinating color
  • Tape measure
  • 2 cymbidium orchids or other durable, large-bloomed fresh flowers

  • Duct tape

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut the flower stems to measure four inches long. Remove all leaves from the stems.

      Cut a one-inch lengthwise slit in the center of the velvet ribbon with the scissors.

      Slide the flower stems through the ribbon slit from front to back.

      Cut a small amount of duct tape to attach the stems to the wrong side of the velvet ribbon. Press the tape over the stems securely.

      Tie the ribbon around the wearer's wrist with a square knot on the inside of the wrist. To make a square knot, pass the right hand ribbon over and under the left hand ribbon and pull the ends. Pass the left hand ribbon over and under the right hand ribbon and pull the ends again.

      Trim the ends of the ribbon to three inches with a diagonal cut to create a pointed end.

  • Fresh lilacs stems can also be used for this wrist corsage.
