The Whirlpool Duet HT washer has a separate motor for the drain pump. The drain hose pump is designed so that it can be cleaned out if necessary. To clean out the pump it is necessary to remove the drain hose pump from the Whirlpool washer. Unlike some washers, there are no belts to remove to pull the pump assembly out of the washer. Because of the clean out capabilities, Whirlpool designed the assembly to be quickly removed and installed for cleaning.
Things You'll Need
- Nut driver
- Slip joint pliers
Disconnect the Whirlpool Duet washer power cord from the wall electrical outlet.
Remove the three screws on the bottom edge of the toe panel with a nut driver. Lift the toe panel up and pull the lower part of the panel away from the washer. Remove the toe panel from the washer and set it out of the way.
Locate the door covering the wiring harness connection beside the drain pump. The pump is the white piece with the two water hoses connecting to the side. Pry the door open with your finger and pull the pump wiring harness away from the connection.
Remove the screw securing the pump assembly to the frame of the washer with a nut driver. The screw is below the pump. Pull the pump out of the washer enough that you can access the clamps securing the hoses.
Press the tabs on the spring clamps securing the drain hoses to the pump with a pair of slip joint pliers. Slide the clamps down each hose and pull the hoses off the pump. Pull the pump completely away from the washer.
Hold down the lock tab on the pump motor and twist the drain hose pump counterclockwise to remove the pump from the motor.
