How to Change a Vacuum Cleaner Bag on a Eureka 4870

The Eureka brand 4870 Boss SmartVac, also known simply as the Eureka 4870, is an upright vacuum cleaner that uses disposable vacuum cleaner bags instead of a reusable container or canister to collect dust, dirt, hair and other debris. The vacuum bag is accessible through a cover located at the front of the vacuum. Changing the bag requires only that you remove the old bag, clean or replace the motor filter that prevents dust and debris in the compartment from entering the motor and replace the old bag with a new one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and unplug your Eureka 4870.

    • 2

Place your fingers under the latch-style handle on the front of the vacuum and lift up to unlock the latch. Pull the front cover from the vacuum and set it aside.

    • 3

Press the lever located near the top of the bag on the left side to the left to unlock the RR disposable vacuum cleaner bag from inside the vacuum bag compartment.

    • 4

Pull down on the cardboard collar at the top of the bag and lift the bag from the compartment. Dispose of the bag in a trash can.

    • 5

Reach into the bottom of the vacuum bag compartment and lift up on the small handle on the filter retainer that covers the motor filter. Remove the filter retainer and then pull the motor filter from the pegs that secure it inside the filter compartment.

    • 6

Shake or brush with a soft-bristled brush the dust and debris on the motor filter into the trash can. Return the filter to the filter compartment--securing it on the pegs--and then push the filter retainer in place on top of the filter.

    • 7

Grasp the cardboard collar at the top of your new RR disposable vacuum bag by the sides. Insert the back edge of the cardboard along the ledge at the bag top of the compartment where you removed the old bag--aligning the hole in the top of the bag with the opening at the top of the compartment. Push up on the collar to secure it in place along the sides.

    • 8

Push the body of the bag into the vacuum bag compartment. Return the front cover to the front of your vacuum. Plug in your vacuum and turn it on.

Tips & Warnings

  • If dealing with an old motor filter, dispose and replace the filter instead of cleaning it.

  • Always clean or replace the motor filter after you've replaced the vacuum cleaner bag. A dirty motor filter can result in motor damage, overheating or vacuum malfunctioning.
