How to Put Anchors in a Brick Fireplace for a Flat-screen TV
Many homeowner's opt to install their flat-screen TV over the fireplace. This placement adds ambience to the room and allows the family to enjoy the fireplace while watching a favorite program. Before putting anchors in a brick fireplace for a flat-screen TV, ensure the area is not going to get too hot for the TV. Most manufacturers suggest not placing the TV on a fireplace that nears 100 degrees. - Tape measure
- Chalk
- Thermometer
- Level
- Masonry bit
- Drill
- 4 - #8 sleeve anchors
- Hammer
- Socket wrench

Measure the space for the flat panel TV on the fireplace and mark the area with chalk. Chalk cleans off brick and brick facade quickly with a damp cloth after you complete the installation.

Tape a thermometer to the center of the area where you want to place the TV. Start a fire in your fireplace and allow the fire to burn until the temperature stabilizes. Look at the reading on the thermometer. If it is near or above 100 degrees consider installing the TV elsewhere. High temperatures can prematurely damage the electronic components. If the temperature is below 90 degrees, proceed with the installation.

Position the wall mount against the fireplace. Place a 4-foot level across the top to ensure that the mount is level. Mark the mounting holes onto the fireplace with chalk.

Insert a masonry bit into the drill that is the same diameter as the anchor sleeve. Use the anchors that come with the TV or use #8 sleeve anchors. Drill the holes for the anchors into the wall.

Install the anchors through the front of the wall mount with the anchor sleeve pointing toward the wall and the nut and washer on the face of the mount. Position the mount onto the fireplace, inserting the sleeve anchors into the holes.

Tap the top of the anchors slightly with a hammer if necessary. Tighten the nuts on the sleeve anchors evenly with a socket wrench. Proceed with the rest of the installation according to the manufacturer's instructions.
