A little vinegar and water can decalcify a clogged iron or steamer.

When an iron or steamer begins to produce less steam or no steam at all, a likely culprit is excessive calcium deposits on the metal parts of the appliance. Fortunately, a quick clean with a water and vinegar solution can get both steamers and irons back into great working order. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Mix a solution that is 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 warm water. Stir well.

      Pour the solution into your appliance's water container. Fill it to the same level you normally would with regular water.

      Plug the appliance into an outlet and turn it on.

    • 4

      Allow the appliance to use up roughly half of the water/vinegar solution, then turn it off.

      Let the appliance sit for 30 minutes, then pour out the remaining solution.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may need to repeat the above steps two to three times to completely clean the machine.

  • Once finished, run the appliance once with a plain cold water solution before using regularly.

  • Be sure that the appliance is unplugged and turned off when pouring liquids into it.
