Converting a twin bed frame to a double bed frame is easy. This eliminates the need to buy a new bed frame, as you can simply adjust the double bed to fit your mattress. It is also a good way for you to recycle your old bed frame and continue to use it without contributing to the environment's landfill.
Things You'll Need
- Twin bed frame
- Full-size mattress
- Measuring tape
- 2 metal strips, 25-inches long
- Electric drill
- Nuts and bolts
Disassemble the twin bed frame and check if you have all the parts you need to create a double bed. Metal twin-size frames normally consist of two long side rails, each with an extendable metal arm attached to each end. Remove the nuts and bolts with your wrench to dismantle the frame.
Extend the side rails' arms and locate the pins on them. The pins look like small metal stubs that can be adjusted to create a full-size bed. The opposite side's arm should have two holes.
Hold the second pin on one of the arms of the side rails and slide it into the other arm's second hole. Pull this outward and ensure that it locks in position. Repeat the step with the opposite end's arms.
Position the rails 54 inches apart to cover the width of your full-size mattress. Use your measuring tape to get the exact measurements.
Use the two metal strips to extend the width of the frame at the top and bottom. This will create an overlap of around 5 inches on each of the strip's sides. Drill holes through the metal strips to align with the holes on the frame. Attach the metal strips to connect the rails using nuts and bolts and tighten them with your wrench. Lay your mattress on the bed frame to cover your new double bed.
