How do I Replace the Interior Dome Light in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata?

The interior dome light in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata is designed to increase visibility inside the vehicle. This light is mounted in the center of the roof and secured to the sheet metal with small steel screws. The dome bulb is covered by a clear piece of impact-resistant plastic. When this bulb burns out, the dome light will not illuminate until it is replaced. Replacement bulbs are available at most auto parts and hardware stores.

Things You'll Need

• Flat head screwdriver
• Replacement dome light bulb

Instructions

1. Turn the ignition to the "off" position, place the vehicle in park and engage the emergency brake. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal using the battery terminal wrench.

2. Use the flat head screwdriver to carefully pry the clear plastic cover off of the dome light housing.

3. Remove the dome light bulb from its receptacle. Place the new dome light bulb in the dome light receptacle.

4. Replace the plastic dome light cover. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using the battery terminal wrench and check the dome light to ensure that it functions appropriately.
