How to Install Java 1.5

Found This Helpful

Originally developed by Sun Microsystems, Java technology allows programmers to create applications capable of running on nearly any operating system. Instead of creating separate programs for the Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms, it lets them write code only one time. All end users have to do is install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) software on their computer one time and Java programs will run without issue. If you want to install version 1.5 of the JRE on your system, download the installer program from the Java website and then run through its brief setup process.

Download Java 1.5

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Java Technology Products Download Archive website.

  2. Locate the category labeled "JDK/JRE - 5.0."

  3. Click the adjacent drop-down menu, select "5.0 Update 22" and click "Go."

  4. Click the "Download JRE" link.

  5. Select your operating system from the "Platform" drop-down menu, check the box labeled "I agree to the Java Runtime Environment 5.0u22 License Agreement," then click "Continue."

  6. Click the link below the heading labeled "Offline Installation." Save the resulting installer program to your desktop when prompted.

Install Java 1.5

  1. Close all open programs and web browser windows.

  2. Double-click the icon of the installer program you downloaded previously. Click "Continue" or "Run" if prompted, or provide your administrator user name and password. Click "OK."

  3. Select the "Typical setup" option and click "Accept" to start the installation process.

  4. Click "Finish" after installation completes to close the installer program.

  5. Restart your computer.
