How to Download Music From a Webpage thumbnail
You can download music directly from some websites.

A great deal of music has migrated to the Internet, and you can access it via streaming radio or by downloading songs from official websites and blogs. If you want to increase the number of MP3s on your hard drive without breaking any laws, there are a number of steps you can take to find the music you're looking for. Some might cost money, while others will give you free access to songs that are otherwise unavailable.

Instructions

Go to the artist's website, as many musicians offer free MP3s of their music. The selection won't be complete—and some sites will offer no songs at all—but you're still likely to find many songs with this technique. Every website uses a different layout, but you'll typically find free music under headers like "Listen," "Download" and "Music."

Search music blogs using Elbows Music Blog Aggregator, The Hype Machine or Google's blog search. Many bloggers have access to rare releases and obscure remixes. If you're having trouble finding a particular song, this might be the best option for you. Be wary of downloading music illegally, however; some unscrupulous bloggers post entire albums without the artist's permission.

Download the song. The simplest approach is to click on the song's hyperlink. Often, this will start the download. If it doesn't, you can try right-clicking on the hyperlink and choosing "Save link as..." from the menu. This will initiate a download of the song. Make sure the file ends with the extension ".mp3" before you click "Save."

If the file ends with an extension like ".html" or ".php," you won't be able to download the MP3 this way. In most cases, the link will take you to another web page that plays or stores the song. If this happens, look for a "Download" button on that page.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit an MP3 retail website, such as Amazon or iTunes. Search for the song you're looking for and then purchase it. Most songs cost under a dollar, and you'll be able to download a high-quality MP3 at fast rates.
