How to Install Brake Lights on a Lexus IS 300

A burnt-out brake light bulb on your Lexus IS300 does not require a call to a service center. Save time and money by changing the brake light bulbs on your IS300 at home in just a few minutes. The IS300 uses a 7443 brake light bulb available at most auto parts stores or Lexus dealerships. Keep your brake lights functioning to reduce the risk of accidents on the road or to avoid getting a traffic citation.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Open the trunk of your IS300. Locate the round plastic covers on the side of the light assembly, just inside the trunk cover area. Pry the two covers off with a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Remove the mounting screws inside the holes exposed when you removed the covers using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the screws aside.

  • Pull the light assembly forward. Disconnect the wiring harness behind the light assembly. Turn the retaining ring counter-clockwise to remove it.

  • Pull out the bulb from the assembly. Insert a new bulb into the taillight assembly. Replace the retaining ring and turn it clockwise to lock it in place. Push the wiring harness connection together until it clicks. Push the light assembly back into the mounting area.

  • Secure the light assembly with the two screws. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Replace the covers by pressing them into place until they click. Repeat the process on the opposite side if needed. Close the trunk. Press the brake pedal to make sure the new brake-light bulb works.
