How to Rent an Upholstery Cleaning Machine

Renting a carpeting-cleaning machine is an inexpensive way to give your carpet a deep, thorough cleaning. Capet cleaning machines give you the option to use an upholstery attachment to clean your furniture. You typically rent the machine for 24-hour periods at a time, but this may vary depending on the store. Before using a carpeting- and upholstery-cleaning machine, read all directions, follow all warnings and familiarize yourself with the machine.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 forms of ID Deposit
  • Visit your local home improvement store or grocery chain.

  • Inquire at the service desk about renting an upholstery-cleaning machine.

  • Show two forms of ID. Driver’s license, stated issue ID, student ID, military identification, voter’s registration card or passport all will work for the ID.

  • Pay a deposit. Some stores require a deposit when renting upholstery-cleaning machines. Deposits vary from store to store. If a deposit is required, it will be returned to you in full if the machine is in the same condition when you bring it back as when you rented it.

  • Rent the upholstery attachment tools. You typically rent these tools separately for a small fee.

  • Purchase the appropriate cleaning machine chemicals. You must purchase these chemicals separately and they are usually located next to the carpet cleaning machines.

  • Ask the sales associate about operating instructions for the carpet and upholstery-cleaning machine. The sales associate may provide you with the instructions if they are not attached to the machine.
