How to Design Print Postcards

How to Design Print Postcards thumbnail
Your postcard should be designed with your marketing audience in mind.

Print postcards are used to advertise new products and services, gather leads, send out invitations and reminders, and more. Your postcard should be designed with your marketing audience in mind. You’ll want to use the right fonts, colors, images and spacing. It’s important not to clutter your post card with content. If you can’t seem to convey your message within a card, try using a larger size. When it comes to postcard design, a simple, but attractive design is best.

Instructions

    • 1

      Plan the content of your postcard beforehand. Then choose a post card size that fits your needs. You’ll find a variety of sizes, including 4-1/2 x 5-1/2, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, 6 x 9 and 6 x 11.

    • 2

Choose colors and images that match your brand image and purpose. If you already have a company logo, use it in your design. You can pull main colors from your logo for other colors on the postcard. Be sure to reverse your colors by using a dark background with light-colored text and vice-versa.

    • 3

Add an additional 1/4 inch around the sides of your postcard, which will produce a professional look when the cards are printed and cut.

    • 4

Use no more than two fonts for your text and be consistent. Then add bullets, bold text, or italics in areas you want to emphasize. Your wording should be brief, but catchy.

    • 5

Balance the contents (ex., lines, borders, images, text) of your postcard evenly, so one part doesn’t include tons of white space, while another is overcrowded. Be sure to leave room for the mailing address and bar code.
