How to Repair Cracked Emeralds

How to Repair Cracked Emeralds thumbnail
Emeralds are stones that are commonly mined from shafts.

Emeralds are expensive stones that can easily crack without proper care. A crack in an emerald cannot only ruin its visual appearance, but it will decrease its value. Taking the stone to a jeweler can be an expensive investment that is sometimes not worth the actual price of the stone. Using an emerald finish, such as ProFinish Emerald can help fix those unappealing cracks and save you money.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the emerald. Using a damp rag and dish soap, clean the emerald then wipe it dry with a paper towel.

    • 2

Mix the finish thoroughly. Without thinning the finish, use a power drill or mixing blade to mix the finish at a low speed.

    • 3

Pour the solution into a backpack sprayer. Applying the finish with a brush or roller can make the coating uneven when it dries.

    • 4

Lay the emerald on a flat cardboard box. Spray the emerald evenly then work the coating into the surface to increase linkage and remove pinholes.

    • 5

Let the emerald dry on the cardboard. Re-spray the stone, if you need a more refined coat.
