How to Set Victor Mouse Traps

Victor offers several kinds of mouse traps, ranging from glue traps and live traps, in which you simply place a piece of food near the glue or in the live trap box and wait for the mouse to get stuck, to traditional snap traps, which require a little more effort to set. The best-selling mouse trap for over 100 years, the snap trap uses no chemicals or pesticides, and so is safe for use in homes with children and pets.

Things You'll Need

  • Victor snap traps
  • Bait
  • Latex gloves
  • Lay the trap down on a flat surface. Pull out the small staple that holds down the long locking bar to the wood base at the end of the trap.

  • Put the bait on the curled metal bait pedal. Peanut butter or a cracker with peanut butter is very effective. Contrary to popular myth, mice don't prefer cheese to other foods---they tend to go for dry carbohydrates instead.

  • Pull back the square copper piece--called the "bow"--and hold it down while placing the locking bar over it and under the lip of the bait pedal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set several traps at once and place them every 3 to 4 inches in the area you think the mice are. Let them sit overnight and collect them in the morning. Wearing latex gloves to prevent any kind of infection or other health issues, dispose of used traps immediately.
