How to Make Wings
Wings are a vital component of fairy or angel Halloween costumes and can look graceful and fetching on an adult or a child. Luckily, you don't have to purchase a nondescript pair at a local costume shop or pay through the nose purchasing a specialty pair from an online boutique. Instead, you can create a pair of wings that matches your costume perfectly at home.
Things You'll Need
- 3 wire hangers
- Masking tape
- 2 pairs pantyhose in matching color of your choice
- Scissors
- 2 yards elastic
- Hot glue gun
- Bunch of fake flowers
- Rhinestones, sequins, beads, etc.
Instructions

1
Take two wire hangers and shape them into a loose oval/triangle shape. They should look exactly identical when finished.
-
2
Straighten out the hooks of each hanger and wrap them securely around each other. Cut a 12-inch piece of masking tape and wrap it around this area to secure them together. This area should look like a miniature masking tape bridge.
-
-
3
Hold the third hanger upside down and pull the middle of the longest side down to the hook. This will create two little wing shapes. Straighten the hook and wrap it around the middle of the longer side of the hanger. Sculpt the two little wings so that they are slightly round and identical.
-
4
Attach the third wing to the bottom of the two attached wings by wrapping the straightened wire hook around the taped-over wire.
-
5
Lay a pair of pantyhose in front of you and cut one leg 20 inches from the toe up. Repeat with the other leg.
-
6
Stretch each cut leg over each mini wing at the bottom of the structure. Twist the remaining panty hose from each wing toward the center and wrap it around the masking tape bridge. Tape it in place.
-
7
Lay another piece of pantyhose in front of you and cut each leg so that it's 30 inches long from the toe up. Stretch each leg over each larger wing. Pull the remaining pantyhose toward the center, twist around the masking tape bridge and tape in place.
-
8
Cut two 1-yard pieces of elastic. Fold each piece in half and insert it around one upper panel of the wings. Tie a knot to hold it in place. Repeat with the other side.
-
9
Hot glue a bunch of fake flowers to secure the masking tape bridge. Continue to hot glue sequins, rhinestones, beads, glitter, etc. onto the wings.
