Glass jars have long been used as candelabras and votives. Arranging candle-bearing glass jars around your home provides an old-world style. Jars are also popular because of their ease of acquisition and affordability. Old wax buildup is not hard to remove, especially when you have heat from an oven, but certain care must be taken to avoid breaking the glass.
Things You'll Need
- Pie pan
- Paper towel
- Medium bowl
Preheat oven to 175 degrees F.
Clean and dry the pie pan. Any leftover water droplets or moisture will cause the melted wax to pop or splatter in your oven.
Place the old jar upside down in the pie pan. Use an appropriate sized pan for the amount of wax on the jar.
Bake the jar in the pie pan until the wax is completely melted from the jar. The length of time for baking varies based on thickness and age of wax.
Remove the pie pan and jar carefully from the oven once the wax has melted into the pan.
Wipe the jar with the paper towel to remove any leftover wax. The paper towel will absorb any remaining melted wax on the jar.
Wash the jar in a bowl of warm water to further remove any residue left on the jar.
Tips & Warnings
- To remove wax from the pie pan after cleaning your jar, let the wax cool until firm and pliable, then peel the wax from the pan.
- Do not leave the melting wax unattended in the oven.
