Maytag Performa Dryer Troubleshooting

The Maytag Performa Dryer is an important appliance for maintaining a crisp, clean look for your clothing, bedding and other washable household items. It efficiently dries the items and they come out mostly wrinkle-free. Various settings allow the Performa to match the proper drying temperature to the type of fabric you are drying. Occasionally, your Maytag Performa may stop working. You may be able to fix the problem without calling a repair person.

  • Check the door to make sure that it is shut. Put your hand on the door handle, firmly grip it with your fingers and reopen the door all the way and then reclose it securely.

  • Look to see that the electrical cord is properly connected. You may have to move the dryer to get to the electrical receptacle. Grasp the plug with your hand and ensure that it is making a tight connection.

  • Restart the dryer by pressing the start button.

Clothes do not dry properly

  • Check the size of the load. You should place one washed load at a time into the Performa. The machine will not adequately dry more than one large load.

  • Inspect the dryer to see if it is turning properly. The load may be too small. Make the load larger by adding a few towels or pieces of clothing.

  • Check the exhaust hood on the outside of your house. Open and close the door covering the exhaust pipe to ensure that it moves freely. If it does not, clean out the lint with a gloved hand.

  • Start the dryer by pushing in the control knob.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dryer should be cool when you do maintenance on it.
  • Be sure that the floor is dry when you check the electrical connection.
