The positive crankcase ventilation valve on the Nissan Hardbody pickup is a one-way valve that allows gases from inside the crank case of your engine to be circulated through the cylinders to burn them off. This reduces the amount of internal pressure in the engine and engine emissions. PCV valves are available from the dealer or through any auto parts store. The valve is very inexpensive and only takes a few minutes to change.
Things You'll Need
- Metric wrench set
Open the hood and locate the oil filter on the driver’s side of the engine. The filter sticks out of the side of the engine and is easily recognizable.
Locate the PCV valve on the side of the engine just behind the oil filter. It is a small screw-in valve with a large rubber hose coming off it. The PCV valve is on the driver’s side of the engine.
Pull the rubber hose off the end of the PCV valve, then use a 19-mm wrench to turn the valve counter clockwise. Turn the valve until it is loose enough to remove from the block. Discard the old valve.
Install the new valve into the threaded hole in the engine block and tighten it with a 19-mm wrench. Push the rubber hose back onto the end of the new PCV valve.
