The Windows operating system blocks users from installing certain types of software to avoid accidentally corrupting important applications. However, Windows has a "Run As Administrator" feature that bypasses the restrictions and installs the software. If you are logged in as a user with permissions to run this feature, you can bypass the restrictions and install any needed application. This can be used to install the Java software used for website browsing.
Extract the downloaded files into a directory (see resource). Right-click the "install.exe" file in the directory and select "Run as administrator." The installer opens in "Administration Mode."
Select "I agree" at the license agreement screen and click "Install." The installer lists the files it will install on your computer. Click "Next" to acknowledge the settings and files.
Click "Close" at the final screen displayed after the files are copied and installed. Open your Web browser and click the second resource link to test the new installation. The Java applet executes and displays a message labeled "Your Java is Working."
