How to Get a Copy of a Florida Vehicle Title

If you have misplaced or lost your Florida vehicle title, there is no need to worry: the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles allows vehicle owners to apply for duplicate vehicle titles. Only the registered owner of the vehicle can apply for a copy of the title, and only the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is authorized to issue duplicate vehicle titles in the state. A duplicate vehicle title voids the original title.

• Driver's license or other proof of identity
• Form HSMV 82101

Instructions

1. Download form HSMV 82101 from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) website. This form is the application for a duplicate title.

2. Complete the form with details about the car and the owner.

3. Take the completed form to a DHSMV office. You can find the nearest office location on the DHSMV website. Alternatively, you can mail the form to the DHSMV.

4. Show proof of identification, such as a driver's license, and pay the duplicate title fee. As of May 2010, the fee is $75.25. If you need the title immediately, you can pay an additional $10 for fast service.
