How to Remove a Door Panel on a 95 Explorer Sport

Ford's 1995 Explorer Sport features a one-piece door panel with an integral control panel. The panel conceals the door glass and a number of wiring connections for the windows, locks, the door's speaker and the door's interior light. Unlike the case with other types of door panels, the panel's electrical-control panel need not be completely disconnected from each of its wiring harnesses to remove the door panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Pry the cover plate located behind the door-latch handle off the door panel with a small pry bar.

    • 2

Remove the two screws located between the top of the door-latch handle and below the armrest with a Philips screwdriver.

    • 3

Insert the tip of a small pry bar between the door panel and the metal door frame, then move the pry bar along the two sides and the bottom of the door panel while prying the panel off the door.

    • 4

Pull the door panel away from the door frame only enough to access the door's interior light.

    • 5

Grasp the light-bulb housing attached to the back of the door, then rotate the housing in a counterclockwise direction and pull the light away from the door panel.

    • 6

Push the door panel's electrical-control panel from the interior side of the door panel towards the door frame.

    • 7

Disconnect the single wiring harness which connects the door panel to the bottom of the door panel's electrical-control panel by lifting upward on the grey clip on the end of the harness, then by pulling the harness off the control panel to free the door panel. The other wiring harnesses attached to the control panel need not be disturbed.
