Removing the wallpaper from your walls is an good way to give any room in your house a refreshing makeover. However, getting rid of old wallpaper from your walls can be time consuming and tedious. Luckily, the easiest way to remove wallpaper is a home remedy that takes off both the wallpaper as well as any residue that it may leave behind. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle
  • 5 tbsp. liquid fabric softener
  • Hot water
  • Metal scraper
  • Paper towel
  • Large pail
  • 6 tbsp. dish detergent
  • Clean lint-free rag

Instructions

      Pour 5 tbsp. of liquid fabric softener into a spray bottle.

      Pour enough hot water into the spray bottle to fill the bottle.

      Spray the mixture on the walls and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.

      Pull the wallpaper from the walls starting near the bottom of the wall and working your way up.

      Spray the mixture on any glue residue and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

      Use a metal scraper to remove glue from the wall.

      Clean the residue from the scraper with paper towel.

      Fill a large pail with hot water and add 6 tbsp. of dish detergent.

      Wet a clean lint-free rag with the water from the pail and wash the walls.

      Allow the wall to air-dry completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have fabric softener, you can use vinegar as a substitute. Mix equal parts of vinegar and hot water in a spray bottle and use as directed.

  • It is important to allow enough time for the water solution to penetrate the wallpaper.
