One way to prevent important files from being deleted is to write-protect the file using the Windows File Properties function. By making the file read-only, the file may not be deleted, edited or overwritten by users. Microsoft Windows Explorer allows users quick access to file and folder properties, where file attributes may be edited. Enable the read-only attribute in File Properties using Windows Explorer, and this will stop the file from being deleted or changed.
Right-click on the Windows "Start" button and select "Explore." Windows Explorer will launch.
Right-click on the file to protect and select "Properties."
Check the checkbox in front of the "Read-Only" selection in the "Attributes" section.
Click the "OK" button. The file is now write-protected to prohibit edits or deletion.
Tips & Warnings
- Make regular backups for your files so, just in case of an unfortunate incident, there is an earlier version to revert back to.
