How to Make Fairy Paper Dolls

Make a fairy paper doll out of tag board.

Paper dolls can be a source of amusement for young children not yet old enough to insist on more realistic, three-dimensional representations of their play toys. Paper dolls also allow children to design a myriad of outfits for the doll, sparking imagination and not putting a large dent in the allowance. Make fairy paper dolls out of tag board for durability, designing additional outfits when desired by using water color paper and paints for a more ethereal look.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a simple sketch of a human figure in a simple standing position on tag board. Allow a bit of space under the arms and between legs to attach shirt and pants paper clothing. Add wings peeking out from either shoulder to make the doll look like a fairy.

    • 2

      Cut out the figure.

    • 3

Add details to the face and hair by drawing with colored pencils. Outline the wings to differentiate them from the rest of the body.

    • 4

Make clothing out of water color paper. Trace around the doll onto the water color paper lightly in pencil. Using the appropriate size and contours of the clothing, design outfits, first sketching in pencil and then coloring with water colors. Use paper towels and water to clean the brush between colors. Cut out the outfits when dry, leaving several rectangular tabs sticking out of the outfits' contours.

    • 5

Dress the fairy paper doll by laying a completed outfit over the doll and bending rectangular tabs behind the doll to hold in place.
