If you have a flat tire on your Jeep Liberty, change it out with the spare.

Getting a flat tire will diminish your ability to drive your vehicle and can put a stop to any travel plans you may have. Luckily, changing a tire is a simple process that will at least allow you to get to a service station to get the car looked at. There are several different procedures for changing a tire, depending on what type of vehicle you have. The 2008 Jeep Liberty has all the tools you need to perform the tire change in the trunk of the vehicle, and the spare tire is attached to the bottom of the vehicle.

Things You'll Need

  • Jeep jack
  • Spare tire
  • Lug wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Open the rear door of the 2008 Jeep Liberty. Pull up the latch for the compartment that is located on the left hand side of the trunk. This contains the jack and lug wrench. Remove the compartment door and take out the pieces.

    • 2

Place the jack handle in the drive nut, located on the bottom of the trunk. Place the lug wrench through the hole in the jack handle to create a handle. Spin the handle in the drive nut in a counterclockwise motion to lower the spare tire from under the Jeep. Unhook the tire from the chain assembly,

    • 3

Park the vehicle on a flat location and pull up the parking brake. The gear shift should be in the "Park" position.

    • 4

Loosen the lug nuts from the flat tire with the lug wrench, but do not remove them at this point. Assemble the jack mechanism and place it in the notch on the frame directly behind the front tire or under the axle of the flat tire, to change a rear tire.

    • 5

Turn the jack screw to the right using the jack handle to raise the jack. Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is completely off the ground. Remove the lug nuts from the flat tire and take it off of the vehicle.

    • 6

Place the spare tire in the open tire position the same way the flat tire was situated. Place the lug nuts on the new tire and screw them in so they are attached but not tightened. Turn the jack screw to the left to lower the vehicle.

    • 7

Tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench when the tire is on the vehicle. Attach the flat tire to the chain mechanism. Create the winch with the jack handle and the lug wrench and spin the drive nut in the trunk in a clockwise motion to raise the tire. Place all of the equipment back in the jack compartment and close the panel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get to a service station as soon as possible as the vehicle is not designed to drive for a long period on a spare tire.

  • When changing the tire, make sure the jack is secure at all times. If not, the jack can slip, causing the car to come crashing down
