How to Wash Vans Sneakers

Washing your Vans sneakers is easy.

Vans carries a large line of suede sneakers available in a variety of colors. These sneakers, as with any other type of footwear, quickly collect dirt and other outdoor elements from everyday wear and tear. The sneakers also can develop an odor as perspiration settles onto the interior lining of the shoes, leaving the sneakers smelling unpleasant. By washing the sneakers properly, you can keep them in like-new condition for years.

Things You'll Need

• Suede brush
• Suede eraser
• Suede cleaner
• Cleaning rag
• Dish soap

Instructions

1. Brush the sneakers regularly with a suede brush to keep the fabric looking its best. Brush with the grain of the suede, which should remove loose dirt easily from the sneakers.

2. Remove scuff marks from the sneakers with a suede eraser. This looks like an oversized pencil eraser, and it works the same way. Simply rub the eraser across any scuff marks.

3. Pour 1 tablespoon of suede cleaner onto a cleaning rag, and rub it into the suede part of the shoes using small, circular motions. Repeat until all the suede has been cleaned.

4. Moisten a cleaning rag with warm water and dish soap, and rub it across the soles of the shoes.

5. Wash the sneakers in the washing machine to remove tough residue and odor. Remove the laces from the shoes, place the shoes and shoestrings in the washing machine alone, and pour in a capful of laundry detergent designed for use on delicate items. Wash using a small load size and cold water wash cycle.

6. Remove the shoes from the washing machine, and stuff a clean rag inside of each sneaker to help keep the shoe's form as it air dries. Re-lace the shoes when the sneakers and laces have dried fully.
