When a Yahoo Mail account is created, you must provide a primary alternate email address for the account. The Yahoo Mail account is linked to this alternate email account. If the Yahoo Mail account is ever locked or the password is lost, you can unlock the account and reset the password using the primary alternate email address. Sometimes, you need to add another alternate email or change your primary alternate email address for mail services. You can do this through the Yahoo Profile interface.

Add Alternate Email

Step 1

Log in to the Yahoo Account Information page with your Yahoo Mail account user ID and password (link in Resources).

Step 2

Click the “Sign-In and Security” link, and then click the “Update Password Reset Information.”

Step 3

Click the “Add Another” option in the Email Addresses section. Type the new email address into the “Email Address” input box.

Step 4

Click the “Save” button and then click “Done.”

Step 5

Verify the email address by clicking the “Verify Now” option next to the new address. A Verification pop-up window opens, and the alternate email account receives a verification email from Yahoo.

Step 6

Note the verification code from the Yahoo verification email message, and then type the verification code into the pop-up window. Click the “Verify” option. Your new alternate email address is verified.
