How to Make a Parachute Cord Wristband

Make a fashion statement with your survival gear. A parachute cord bracelet is easily fashioned using a knot known in macrame as a square knot and can be unraveled for use as a rope in an emergency. As a general rule of thumb you will get about 1 foot of rope for every inch of wrist measurement. Parachute cord comes in a wide range of colors so you can easily co-ordinate with your apparel.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure your wrist

    • 2

Cut off 10 feet of parachute cord

    • 3

Place the two ends of the parachute cord together and fold it in the center.

    • 4

Run the center fold through one end of the buckle.

    • 5

Thread both ends of the cord through the loop you just made with the center fold of the cord and pull the resulting lark's head knot down snug.

    • 6

Open the buckle and thread the two ends of the cord through the other end of the buckle.

    • 7

Slide the buckle down the cord until the measurement of your wrist exists between the two ends of the buckle.

    • 8

Lay all four cords parallel leading toward the other end of the buckle. Take the left cord under the two center cords and over the right cord.

    • 9

Take the right cord over the two center cords and through the loop between the left cord and first center cord. Pull the cords up to make a snug knot.

    • 10

Take the right cord under the two center cords and over the left cord.

    • 11

Take the left cord over the two center cords and through the loop between the right cord and the second center cord. Pull the cords up snug.

    • 12

Repeat process until you’ve covered all the center cord.

    • 13

Cut the cord close to the last knot

    • 14

Use the lighter to melt the end of the cord and press it against the knot to fuse it together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pull the knots only tight enough so there’s no slack in the cord.

  • Melting parachute cord can drip and burn anything it touches. Work on a protective pad or mat and beware of burning your fingers.
