How to Repair a Dell E153FP Flat Panel Monitor
The Dell E153FP monitor can be an excellent computer display choice when operating properly, but a number of potential problems can easily cripple its usefulness. The Dell monitor may suffer from incorrect cable placement, maladjusted brightness settings, inverter-cable issues and more. A number of these most common problems can be whittled down and selectively tested for though, and a professional's assistance is not required in order to perform successful repair. A hefty toolbox is not needed either, as only a Phillips-head screwdriver and potentially an additional computer device for testing are needed.

1
Check your power status on the Dell E153FP Flat Panel Monitor. The cable linking the monitor to your computer tower or other external device (depending on your setup) may have simply become loose. Also, check to make sure the computer itself is properly plugged into your power source, whether that is via a direct connection to the wall outlet or a connection to your surge protector or power strip. If your computer device is not receiving power, no information will display on your Dell E153FP monitor even if the monitor is correctly plugged in otherwise.
-
2
Check the monitor brightness settings if your Dell E153FP monitor is dark. Your brightness settings may have accidentally been tweaked all the way down. There will be dedicated monitor-brightness buttons on the bottom face of the Dell E153FP monitor.

3
Attempt connecting the Dell E153FP monitor to another computer. This can test to see if the problem actually resides with your Dell monitor itself or instead with the computer it is attached to. Unplug the Dell E153FP monitor from its existing port and plug it into the back of the new computer tower or laptop model via the "Video Out" port on the computer's back or side. Power on the Dell monitor and the new computer and wait to see if the monitor works and displays the computer's desktop. If it does, the problem lies with your computer, not your Dell E153FP monitor.

4
Take apart your Dell E153FP monitor to examine the inverter cable if the preceding test yielded no results. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws around the bezel of the monitor (the far outer perimeter of the monitor). These may still be covered with plastic screw caps for aesthetic purposes, so be sure to pop these off prior to screw removal.
-
5
Peel off the bezel carefully and find the inverter cable--a black cable at the bottom center of the exposed Dell E153FP monitor. This inverter cable helps govern the backlight of the monitor. If it has come loose from the inverter cable connector directly beside it, reattach the cable in order to restore the backlight. If the cable has not come loose, you will likely need to replace your Dell E153FP monitor altogether.
