How to Clean the Rust Off of My SS Miele Dishwasher

The SS Miele Dishwasher is known for high performance, sleek design and quiet operation. Dishwashers come with a 5-year guarantee, although Miele builds them to last for 20 years or more. Manganese and iron in your water usually cause rust, although it is sometimes caused by rusty pipes or a rusty water heater. Removing rust is easy. Preventing rust buildup takes a bit of detective work.

Things You'll Need

• Commercial rust removal product
• Citric acid
• Orange breakfast drink powder

Instructions

1. Apply commercial rust remover to the stains with a soft cloth according to package directions. Rub until the rust stains are gone.

2. Run the dishwasher on a normal cycle with no dishes to remove any residue.

3. Fill the dishwasher soap dispenser of your dishwasher with citric acid. Run your Miele dishwasher on a normal cycle with no dishes. The stains should be gone.

4. Fill your dishwasher's soap dispenser with orange breakfast drink. Run your dishwasher through a normal cycle with no dishes. Repeat if the stains remain. Orange breakfast drink works because it contains citric acid.

5. Test your water by sending a sample to your local county extension office. The office probably has water testing kits. Testing your water tells you if the problem stems from your water supply or rusty pipes. To prevent rust in the future, install a filter that can control rust or ask a plumbing contractor to help you.

Tips & Warnings

• Always allow the hot water faucet to run in your sink for a few minutes before starting your dishwasher. For best performance, use a rinse aid and clean your Miele dishwasher's filter monthly.

• Clean the inside of your dishwasher with a degreasing agent monthly.

• Clean the outside of your dishwasher with a soft cloth and mild cleanser. Don't use abrasive cleansers or cleansers containing ammonia on your Miele dishwasher.

• Citric acid is available at appliance stores.
