How to Restore My Gateway With Vista Notebook to Factory Settings
If your computer is running slowly or if you want your computer to have a clean slate, restoring your PC to its factory default could help. You will need to make sure that all of your files are backed up, because restoring your computer will delete everything off the computer except for the operating system and mandatory software. Restoring your computer should be a last resort when trying to clean it.

Press "Start," then click "All Programs," "Gateway," then "Gateway Recovery Manager." Click "Restore" on the Recovery Management menu and select to restore the factory default. When the computer ask you to confirm the restoration, click "Yes" and "Start." The computer will restart.

Press "Next" on the Restore from factory default box. Click "Next" on the Destination Disk Information menu. The separation of the hard drive will be created and the factory default will be newly installed on your hard drive. Once the recovery is finished, press "OK." The computer will restart again.

Click "Next" on the Set Up Windows screen. Accept the license terms. Choose a user name, picture, a computer name and desktop background. There are preloaded pictures you can use if desired.

Click "Use recommended settings" on the Help Protect Windows screen. On the next screen, set your time and date, then select "Next." Click "Start" on the Thank You screen. Your computer will restart and restore back to its original factory default.
