How to Replace a Fog Light Bulb on a 2005 Jeep Liberty

The 2005 Jeep Liberty comes with fog lights on the front bumper of the vehicle, below the headlights. Fog lights on the Jeep Liberty provide additional lighting in dark driving conditions or when the weather is, well, foggy. Over time, fog light bulbs will burn out and require replacement. You can change a fog light bulb without having to take your vehicle to a service center.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the three screws from the back of the fog light assembly and pull the front bezel and fog light lens away from the assembly--far enough to access the wire and bulb within the assembly. Since the fog lights are external, you can access the back of each assembly without having to open the hood or get under the front bumper.

    • 2

Pull the electrical connector off the back of the bulb. You will notice a bulb retainer clip that secures the bulb inside the assembly.

    • 3

Squeeze the two hooked parts of the retaining clip together to remove them from the slots inside the assembly and then push the clip up off the bulb. The retaining clip does not disconnect from the assembly but pivots on a hinge.

    • 4

Pull the old bulb out of the assembly and discard it.

    • 5

Slide the new bulb into the assembly, swing the retaining clip down over the bulb and insert the hooked ends into the slots.

    • 6

Plug the electrical connector into the new bulb, push the bezel and fog light lens back into place and replace the screws in the back of the fog light assembly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not touch the glass part of the bulb with your hands. Oils on your skin will collect on the glass and raise the temperature of the bulb, which can shorten its life.
