How to Make a Flyer for a Church Picnic

Save

Making your own flyers for a church picnic can save the church the expense of having a professional or online printing service do the job. Making the flyers does not have to take long with the help of a computer and either a word processing or a newsletter publishing software. Several word processing packages exist. The Open Office Writer is a free software downloadable from OpenOffice.org. Microsoft products such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher are available for free 60-day trials downloadable from Microsoft.com.

  • Open your word processing or publishing software and create new blank document. To save time, choose from any available templates within the software program. Publishing software usually lists these templates within the starting screen. Word processing programs usually have available templates accessible by clicking "Insert" and then "Template" from the menu choices located in the upper portions of the screen.

  • Type any text onto the screen that is relevant to the church picnic. Include the time, location and directions. Put inviting words at the top like "Church Picnic. Everyone Welcome!" Click on "Insert," then "Picture" to find images to put in the middle of the flyer. You could have one large picture of families enjoying food or smaller pictures with people holding up barbecue utensils while standing in front of the church. You could use clip art pictures of picnic tables or graphics of food, picnic baskets and churches. Navigate to the proper image or images and click on them to insert them. Because you'll probably want to welcome people who do not attend the church, include service times and the church address down at the bottom.

  • Place the cursor to the left of any text you want to boldface, italicize or otherwise restyle. Hold down the cursor and drag the highlight over the text you select. Let go and then choose from the formatting icons along the top of the menu screen. Boldface or change the color of important information such as deadlines or directions or church service times. Be sure to include the church phone number as well.

  • Review the church picnic flyer starting at the top and examine each section for accuracy. Double-check the grammar and factual information. Preview the flyer in one of two ways: Click on "File" in the top menu section followed by the menu choice "Print Preview," or click on the magnifying glass icon. The "Print Preview" screen that appears will show you what the flyer will look like when you print it.

  • Save the church picnic flyer when you are satisfied and close your word processing or publishing software.

Tips & Warnings

  • If one specific person is in charge of giving directions, answering questions or taking reservations, then include words to contact that person with that person's phone number. Keep the church phone number in the section with information about the church.
  • Allow ample time for the distribution of the flyers and other announcements to the congregation. Often this means announcing the event at least one month in advance and having the flyer completed and ready for distribution at that time.
