An outdoor bib is a type of faucet that features a threaded spout. The spout is designed to accommodate the female fitting at the end of a garden hose. Within the hose bib is a rubber packing washer and a plastic stem washer. If either washer cracks, the hose bib will leak. Fortunately, replacement hose bibs are readily available and take only a few minutes to install.
Things You'll Need
- Adjustable wrench
- Plumber's tape
Turn the water supply off at either the inline shutoff valve or at the main water valve near the water meter outside.
Grasp the knurled base of the hose bib with an adjustable wrench, then twist the bib counterclockwise until the bib detaches from its water supply pipe.
Wrap the threaded tip at the base of the hose bib with plumber's tape to prevent water leaks.
Place the replacement hose bib onto the water supply pipe, then rotate the bib clockwise with an adjustable wrench until the hose bib is tight.
Turn the water on at the appropriate water supply valve.
