How to Make a Hat & Scarf for Wine Bottles

Wine is a thoughtful thank-you gift to the host of a party you are attending, or as a holiday gift for friends and neighbors. Make a hat and scarf for wine bottles to give them a festive touch. This easy crochet pattern transforms your gift into a snuggly, cold-weather character. It is a great way to use yarn left over from previous projects. Make several to have on hand in anticipation of those gift-giving parties that sneak up on you.

Things You'll Need

  • Worsted weight yarn, 1 to 2 ounces
  • Crochet hook, size H
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • 1/2-inch pom-pom
  • Wine bottle

Crocheted Wine Bottle Hat

  • Chain 18, leaving a 12-inch tail at the beginning of the chain. Slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring.

  • Single crochet in the next chain and in each chain around the ring. Crochet a single crochet stitch in each stitch, working in continuous rounds until the formed tube measures 3 1/2 inches long. Slip stitch in the last stitch and finish off the yarn. Weave in the end.

  • Turn the tube wrong side out. Thread a yarn needle with the beginning yarn tail. Sew a running stitch through the stitches of the beginning chain of the tube. Pull the thread to gather the end of the tube closed, creating a hat. Knot and cut the yarn. Weave in the end.

  • Turn the hat right side out. Flip the brim up 1/2 inch. Apply a dot of hot glue to the top of the hat and place a 1/2-inch pom-pom in the glue. Slip the hat over the top of the wine bottle.

Crocheted Wine Bottle Scarf

  • Chain 50. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook.

  • Single crochet in each chain stitch. Single crochet three times in the last chain.

  • Insert the hook in the first chain stitch on the other side of the chain. Single crochet in each chain stitch. Single crochet three times in the last chain. Slip stitch to the first single crochet stitch of the round. Finish off the yarn and weave in the ends.

  • Tie the scarf around the neck of the wine bottle, below the hat.
