How to Remove the Seat on a Honda VLX 600

Save

Filling the need for a middleweight cruiser motorcycle, the VLX 600 Shadow has been a reliable mainstay in Honda's lineup of motorcycles. Featuring a 583cc v-twin motor and classic cruiser styling, the Shadow has gained a high level of rider loyalty thanks to its easy to ride demeanor and low maintenance requirements. However, removing the rider's seat and the passenger pillion is often a stumbling block for new Shadow owners. Fortunately, taking the seat off is much easier than it appears.

Things You'll Need

  • 6 mm Allen key, long-handled
  • Lift upward on the sides of the seat between the rider's seat and the passenger pillion pad to reveal the mounting bolts under the seat. There is one bolt on each side of the seat.

  • Unscrew the bolts using a long handled 6mm Allen key. Set the bolts aside.

  • Grasp the passenger pillion pad and lift it upward slightly, then pull the entire seat toward the rear of the motorcycle to unlatch the catch tabs mounted on the front of the rider's seat. Pull the seat away from the motorcycle.
