How to Color With Sharpie Markers on Tile

Permanent alcohol-based ink

Drawing on tiles with Sharpie markers is a great craft project for adults and children of any age. Sharpie markers are pens made with alcohol-based inks, which is what makes them permanent, according to Sharpie. But they're not permanent on every surface. You must seal your Sharpie marks when you're not leaving them on porous surfaces like wood, paper or fabric.

Things You'll Need

• Cotton pads
• Rubbing alcohol
• Multi-color Sharpies
• Acrylic sealant

Instructions

1. Clean the surface of the tile with a cotton pad and rubbing alcohol. Make sure you clean the entire surface of the tile, so that there is no residue or debris.

2. Draw what you want on the tile. Using your imagination and multiple colors will ensure that each tile is unique. Wait 10 minutes for the Sharpie ink to dry.

3. Spray a thin layer of acrylic sealant on the tile. You must be very careful because many sealants have alcohol in them and can cause the Sharpie ink to run. Allow the sealant to dry according to package directions.

4. Spray a second layer of acrylic sealant on the tile and allow to completely dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Sharpies give off fumes that will bother some people, so remember to keep your work area well-ventilated.
