Instructions

    • 1

Cut six squares of tissue paper. Each square should be approximately 5 inches on each side, and you can use all one color or a variety of colors depending on the type of flower you want to make.

    • 2

Stack the tissue paper squares on top of one another and make 1/2-inch accordion folds. To do this, fold in one side by 1/2 inch, then turn them over and fold in the opposite direction. Repeat this across the width of the squares.

    • 3

Bend a standard chenille stem in half and place the crease over the center of your folded tissue paper. Twist the ends of the stem together to hold it in place.

    • 4

Fan out the folds of the tissue paper and separate the layers gently with your fingers, fluffing the paper up and toward the center as you go.

    • 5

Tighten the twist on the chenille stem and mold the paper flowers with your fingers to adjust their appearance. Now make a dozen more.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try rounding the edges of the tissue paper after folding but before adding the chenille stem. Cut off the pointed corners with standard scissors or pinking shears for a rounded or ruffled look.
