Removing a U pipe from underneath a sink is a simple do-it-yourself task. The U pipe works to level the water pressure within the pipes of your home. Also, water sits in the bottom of the U pipe, which prevents any odors from coming back up through your drain pipes.
Things You'll Need
- Plumber's wrench
Loosen the slip nut at the top of the U pipe. The slip nut helps compress two lengths of drain pipe together. Use a plumber's wrench to loosen the nut.
Loosen the second slip nut on the back side of the U pipe, again using the plumber's wrench.
Remove the U pipe once both slip nuts are loosened.
Install the new U pipe, checking the other pipes for cracking and rusting.
